Food arrives, drinks are topped up and the room starts to buzz. It is relaxed, sociable and full of anticipation for what is about to be said.

This part of the day is packed with moments, often in between mouthfuls and laughter. Dont worry I dont photograph while your eating just in-between where possible.

What wedding breakfast photos are really about

These photos are not about plates of food lined up perfectly.

They are about people.

Chats across tables.

Laughter breaking out halfway through a course.

A quiet moment between you both while everyone else is distracted.

It is one of the best times of the day to capture your guests just being themselves.

My approach to photograph the wedding breakfast

I move around quietly and naturally, blending into the background while conversations flow. I am watching interactions rather than setting anything up. Friends leaning in to talk. Someone telling a story with their hands. A table erupting into laughter for no obvious reason. It is relaxed and observational, letting the atmosphere do its thing.

The speeches, exactly as they happen.

Speeches are brilliant because they are completely unpredictable. They can be funny, emotional, slightly chaotic and sometimes all three in the same sentence. I focus just as much on the reactions as the person speaking. The laughter before the punchline. Someone trying not to cry. You both exchanging looks when a story hits close to home.

These reactions are where the real magic is.

I make sure to photograph the room during the wedding breakfast while it is full of life.

People mid laugh.

That feeling of everyone being together in one place.

It all helps tell the story of how the day actually felt, not just how it looked.
