1. Embracing the Venue's Personality

Le Petit Chateau is anything but ordinary. Its eclectic, rustic-meets-chic style gives it a unique, almost cinematic character. My goal when photographing here is to let the venue’s personality shine through. I love getting shots of the statement-making Belle Époque-inspired ceremony room, with its jaw-dropping open fire and ornate details—it’s like stepping into another world. This room alone provides such a stunning backdrop that I often find myself shooting wide angles to show off the space, while also getting those intimate close-ups of the vows with the warm glow of the fire behind.

2. Capturing the Gardens' Fairytale Vibe

Outdoors, the gardens are a dreamscape of wildflowers, stone paths, and that iconic little waterfall. For me, this is where documentary-style photography comes alive. During your reception drinks, I’ll capture guests mingling against the lush, romantic backdrop, often with the Northumbrian sky adding its own dramatic flair. These are relaxed, candid moments—unposed, yet perfectly framed by nature itself.

If the couple’s up for it, I love sneaking them away for a few intimate shots around the gardens, perhaps by the fountain or beneath the archways. These moments are often the quietest part of their day, and the photographs capture that feeling beautifully. Or we can go a bit further only a few more minute walk to the river round the back.

3. Documenting the Details—The Devil’s in Them

Every corner of Le Petit Chateau is packed with character, from the vintage mirrors and elaborate chandeliers to the quirky mismatched decor. Couples who choose this venue have usually put a lot of thought into personalizing their day, so I make sure to capture every detail. It might be close-ups of the floral arrangements, the wedding cake with its perfectly imperfect finish, or the handwritten place cards on each table. These small touches often tell a larger story about the couple's taste and style, making for rich, meaningful shots.

4. Playing with Natural Light

Northumberland’s weather can be as moody as it is beautiful, and I embrace it all. With the venue’s big windows and expansive views, natural light flows in beautifully, even on a grey day. The ceremony room is ideal for soft, flattering light, which is a gift for any photographer. I love using this light to create airy, timeless images that feel romantic yet real, capturing those stolen glances and nervous laughs just as they are.

When the evening rolls in, the lighting shifts to a warm, intimate vibe that’s perfect for capturing heartfelt speeches, tear-filled toasts, and, of course, the first dance under twinkling lights.

5. Letting the Party Unfold

By evening, Le Petit Chateau transforms into a lively, cosy haven as guests gather around the fireplace or spill out onto the patio under the stars. My documentary approach really comes into play here—I’m looking for those unfiltered moments of laughter, dance floor shenanigans, and unexpected hugs. With minimal direction, I let the party scenes unfold, capturing genuine reactions and natural expressions that bring back the energy of the night whenever the couple looks through their photos.

I love Northumberland and I love Le Petit Chateau its more than just a beautiful wedding venue; it’s a place where you will feel a like you have gone away far away you sometime could think you are in another country. For couples looking for that blend of rustic charm and European elegance, it doesn’t get better than this. Capturing a wedding here isn’t just about documenting the day; it’s about preserving the magic that fills every room and lingers in every corner of the garden. And that’s what makes photographing weddings here an absolute joy.
