Walworth Castle Wedding

The Couple

Jordan & Sarah met through mutual friends at a house party back in 2013 where they swapped numbers and after time getting to know each other, began to meet up and got together in May 2014.

Sarah is from Stockton and is a Nursery Assistant and Jordan is from Middlesbrough and is a teaching assistant

They don't have any pets but they would both love a dog to take out on weekend walks and to the beach.

They were away on a Centerparcs break on New Year’s Day 2019 when Jordan popped the question just outside our lodge has just been for an evening walk.

I am always interested in why couples choose me and when I asked them both this they said...

"Having spoken to a friend and colleague from work Nick had been highly recommended for his friendly nature and professionalism. Both I and Jordan then looked over Nick’s website and loved the natural way he caught moments across his photos, so got in touch and really appreciated how at ease we felt in starting off and continuing along the process have been unsure as to which direction to originally go when first looking for a photographer."

Engagement Shoot

During the process of planning, Sarah and Jordan also had the opportunity to book and attend an engagement shoot. I like to be accommodating whenever I can. On the shoot, Sarah and Jordan were initially a little anxious about how to pose for the photos ahead, as they had not been for a photoshoot together up until this point. However, these feelings soon disappeared as straight away began to create a conversation that helped to get to know each other and naturally just dropped back to take shots. Over the session, they both soon forgot the camera was there and went on as we would on a usual evening walk which worked out for some lovely shots that were really natural and turned out beautifully. I was also really informative in ways to stand and place our hands/ arms etc but this is only if needed ( more I would guide not pose) to get the best shots whilst also being happy with us playing around with different ideas and having some fun at the same time. Overall they told me "really enjoyed the whole experience from organising to attending and then receiving our photos back within the next few days. The shoot has also helped us feel more confident for the wedding day ahead in terms of our photos, as we have had the chance to get to know Nick and his photography style, which we are more than happy with and really looking forward to seeing our day captured through."

Another question I like to ask is, any tips for other couples planning their wedding?

"Try and avoid planning a wedding during a pandemic - in all seriousness, where possible enjoy the parts of planning that you can, the day can come and go so quick it will be lovely to look back on the memories that we both got to share with family/friends and each other (I.e dress shopping/ choosing rings together)."

Walworth Castle

Walworth Castle Estate dates back to 1150 and it's a heritage from the Hansard family. Their Heraldic Moto can be seen set in stone above the Ballroom entrance. The Hansards are famous for chronicling the debates in the Houses of Parliament of which some of the debates can be seen today in the Library Tower which has been donated by previous MPs. Between 1189 and 1576, the Walworth Castle estate was owned by the family. It was sold to Thomas Jenison in 1576 and continued to be owned by the Jenisons until 1759.

In 1605 Elizabeth Jenison dies and her son William Jenison inherited the estate valued at £954-10-1d.

The castle worked its way through the Jenison family until 1759 The castle was sold to a wine merchant Matthew Stephenson, a wine merchant from Newcastle. He sold the property again in 1775 to John Harrison.
