Why a second photographer at your wedding
When deciding on a wedding photographer, you may find that just like myself I work alone and you may want the option of a second photographer which is something I can offer. I network with so many wedding suppliers and photographers too, I don't look at other photographers as competition as some do, I see photographers as a great resource as well as a backup for when I am ill which is very rare by the way. A planned second photographer is also a good type of backup, no one plans to have car trouble or become ill but if this was to happen to have a second photograph be another form of backup.
You may say I don't need one or want one and that's ok but don't say you don't need one because it's a small wedding or not a big guest list. This is not the only reason why you might want or expect one. The reason you should consider a second photographer is that I can't be in 2 places at once when both places are important to document everything.
It becomes a must if your wedding day is in lots of different locations, for example, an address for the groom's prep, a different address for the bride's preparation then a church ceremony, followed by another location for your photos then off to your wedding venue.
Another Example!
The bride is getting ready and in the last hour, this is when the main parts of the preparation come together it starts to happen and that is typically the time the boys are ready or arriving, I can't be in both places at once!
The bride is having her father walk into the room to see his beautiful daughter in her dress for the first, this is the time your guest are arriving, so I can't capture that.
Capturing photos of the bride walking to the ceremony room with her father this is the time the groom is waiting for her at the ceremony room looking excited and nervous.
These are all important and are just a few examples and the list does go on, I will give one more and that is while we go away for you portrait photographers, a second photographer can capture everyone having a great time with lots of natural moments.
The time when I think a second photographer is no longer needed is after the speeches, this is when I ask my second photographer to stay too and if they wish to stay longer that's fine but it's not expected of them from me at least.
I have photographed many weddings with a second photographer and I have also been asked to be another photographer's second shooter for their wedding couples because I love doing what I do, if I am free I love to say yes.
If you would like to discuss this or anything else then let's talk send me a message or come and see me, either way, I would love to talk all about weddings so why not yours?
In summery a second photographer at your wedding can offer several benefits and enhance your overall wedding photography experience.
- Comprehensive Coverage: With two photographers, you can capture multiple perspectives and angles simultaneously. While one photographer may be focusing on the couple or the main events, the second photographer can capture candid moments, reactions, and details that might otherwise be missed. This ensures a more comprehensive and diverse collection of images that tell the complete story of your wedding day.
- Simultaneous Coverage of Different Locations: If your wedding involves multiple locations or events happening simultaneously, having a second photographer allows for seamless coverage. While one photographer can capture the preparations of the bride or groom, the other can photograph the guests arriving, the venue setup, or other important moments happening concurrently. This ensures that no important moments or details are overlooked.
- Different Perspectives and Styles: Each photographer has their own unique style and approach to capturing images. Having a second photographer provides a variety of creative perspectives and styles, adding depth and diversity to your wedding photo collection. You may get a mix of candid, documentary-style shots, as well as more posed and artistic shots, providing a well-rounded representation of your wedding day.
- More Candid Moments: Weddings are filled with spontaneous moments that often occur simultaneously. With two photographers, you have a better chance of capturing those genuine, candid moments between family members, friends, and guests. This can include emotional reactions, interactions, and memorable moments that make your wedding album more authentic and heartfelt.
- Efficiency and Time Management: Having a second photographer can help ensure that all the key moments and events are captured. They can assist with coordinating group shots, capturing different parts of the wedding simultaneously, and helping to manage the timeline. This allows for a smoother flow of the day, minimizing any delays and maximizing the time spent capturing beautiful images.
- Backup and Assurance: Having a second photographer provides an extra layer of backup and assurance. In case of any unforeseen circumstances such as equipment failure or an emergency, the second photographer can step in and continue capturing moments seamlessly. It provides a safety net, ensuring that you have a backup plan in case anything unexpected occurs.
Ultimately, the decision to have a second photographer depends on your budget, the size and complexity of your wedding, and your personal preferences. It's worth discussing your specific needs and expectations with your chosen photographers to determine if having a second photographer would be beneficial in capturing the memories of your special day.
Me too?
Me too? what do I mean, I work closely with other photographers and I have close friendships in the wedding industry, and what I mean by this, is I have other photographers ask me to be their second photographer and truth be known, I love it. I will always prioritise the couples I photograph but if I am available and I feel it will not effect the weddings I photograph I love saying yes to be their second photographer. To capture the unseen part of the day from the bride and groom for them to see later is what I love to do and I can do more of this in this role. I am always happy to discuss things like second photographer options so if you want to know more then please feel free to contact me.
